Lady Gaga (the real name: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) is an American singer and songwriter. She was born and raised in New York. She learned how to play the piano at the age of four, wrote her first piano ballad at 13, and began performing by the age of 14. Before focusing on her musical career, she studied at Convert of the Sacred Heart and also attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. While she was working for record company Streamline Records, her talent captured the attention of recording artist Akon, and he signed her to his label Kon Live Distribution. Her debut album The Fame brought her prominence. The album included the popular songs “Just Dance”, “Poker Face”, “Bad Romance”, and sold 15 million copies around the world. Her stage name, Lady GaGa, is a reference to the song "Radio Ga-Ga" by Queen.
Before starting to sing, Lady GaGa used to write songs for other singers, including Fergie and Britney Spears. She is well recognized for her extravagant style as a recording artist, in fashion, in performance and in her music videos. The singles from the album, including “Born This Way”, “Judas”, “The Edge of Glory”, “You and I”, and “Marry The Night” have sold more than 9 million copies in the USA alone. Gaga was named Forbes' Most Powerful Woman in the World 2011 and was included in Time's annual list of the most influential people in the world. With over 2.1 billion views of all her videos online, Lady Gaga is one of the biggest living people on Facebook with over 46 million ‘likes’ and is number 1 on Twitter with over 17.9 million followers.
